What precisely does the fear of success refer to? Are there
negative consequences when we do fear success? What do
those who fear success really believe? What new behavior
patterns can help in overcoming your fear of success?
Steps to Overcoming the Fear of Success:
How does this attack on fear impact our lives? Well, it's
suppressing anxieties of not being good enough. It's uniting
talents and virtues for the greater good. It's confronting
and dismissing existing fears in a more appropriate manner
and recognizing and welcoming us to triumph over
competition, without feeling unworthy or undeserving. It's
beating that loser feeling.
We must learn to express our views and opinions without
hesitation. We have to be willing to set our sights on a
goal and reaching it with both sacrifices and rewards. These
steps will help us make the rough climb, the seemingly
impossible move up. These steps, if completed, can lead us
to success, and they reward those who can persevere.
The fear of success is the fear that you'll accomplish
everything that you set out to do, but that you still won't
be happy, content, or satisfied, once you reach your goal.
Fear's also the result when you surround yourself with
beliefs that you're undeserving of the good things in life
and any positive recognition that comes your way, as a
result of your accomplishments and successes.
Fear of failure is much different. It's the fear of making
mistakes and losing approval. Fear of success is the fear
of accomplishment and being recognized and honored. It's
about the lack of belief in your own ability to sustain
progress, and the accomplishments you've reached in your
life. This fear says that your accomplishments can
self-destruct at anytime. It's a belief that no matter how
far you're able to go or accomplish, it will never be enough
to sustain this success level.
Do you believe that there are other people out there who
are better than you, who will replace you if you don't
maintain your performance record? It's a belief that
success is an end in itself yet that end is never enough
to sustain your interests and commitments.
You mean well but accomplish nothing, so you repeat the
failure process. This includes a fear that once you do reach
the goals you have worked diligently for, the motivation to
continue will fade and you'll find no happiness in any
accomplishments and that you'll always be disgusted with
life because you failed. It's a catch 22. You can fail to
succeed and succeed to fail, so remember that mind-set can
make a difference in how you think about success and
failure. Develop a positive mind-set today!
